ICREA Researcher -Department of Quantum Physics and Astrophysics of the University of Barcelona

Emparan tries to understand the nature of spacetime at its most fundamental level. He studies the classical and quantum aspects of gravity and its most basic objects: the black holes.

He is a researcher with almost 100 papers published and more than 150 talks given about black holes, string theory and cosmology. He has been invited researcher in many universities over the world (Cambridge, Stanford, Kyoto, Munich, etc.). In 2016 he was awarded an Advanced Grant of the European Research Council (the most famous and competitive European individual research projects) in order to develop a new approach in the study of black holes.
